meetings announcement plan

Postby brady » Tue Jun 05, 2012 5:03 pm

Hi,

These are just some quick thoughts on how to go about announcing these events:
1. Once have a date and place, then place a quick article on linuxmednews.com to announce the next meeting, plans to do this every quarter and that it's sponsored by the OEMR organization.
2. Then can use both sourceforge/OEMR forums and the OpenEMR facebook/google+/twitter/linkedin pipeline to further spread the word (initial announcement and then a monthly reminder)

edit: Also like the idea of branding these events as:
OpenEMR MEETUP!

Interim name vote seconded. If someone else thinks differently, they can gripe if they like. Let's go with it. Business item #1 SOLVED.

We need more suggestions for promotion spots other than LinuxMED. Obviously, Bill Gates ain't gonna advertize for us, but there are LOTS of open-source software organizations we can announce with.

Hi,

Agreed. The more places it's posted, the better.

The general plan is to start meeting on a regular basis, quarterly initially, but rotate the meeting around the country so that they function as regional meet ups for those who can't travel on a regular basis. My personal thinking is to go some place cool in the summer and someplace warm in the winter.

Options "In no particular order" by City, State (host):
Seattle, Washington (brady)
Portland, Oregon (Tony, Nate)
Houston, Texas (Tony, Ron, Greg)
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (Kevin)
San Jose, California (Sena)
Fairfield, California (Rod)
North Carolina (Sam Bowen, David Herman and Jack Cahn)
DC area (Shameem Hameed)
St. Petersburg/Tampa, Florida (Art) 05-25-2012

Maybe we should just set up a poll?

Hi,

Would be nice to plan this as far out as possible. Best time to come to Seattle is in the Summer time (June-August); suggest making one of the MEETUPS in Seattle in the summer of 2013.

I'm available for Meetups in Portland anytime. July and August are pretty here. So is Winter if you like to ski. End of July has OSCON which if very good to leverage off of, it's a cool event even if you can't afford the cost of workshops... I can get us meeting space and crash space galore.

Brady, I know that I owe you an email. I'm going to be in Seattle promoting the 5K I'm organizing at OSCON this Thursday & Friday morning. Perhaps we can get together while I'm up there?

Regarding OSCON, perhaps we can organize an OpenEMR meetup/sprint? I'm organizing a 5K run at OSCON on 7/17 including runners that are sensored-up and a follow-on hackathon on 7/21 with the data! Thing is, I may have a bunch of extra room in the same building as the hackathon, so I may be able to host an OpenEMR sprint as well!

I also just sprung for 6 months of Meetup.com, which is a terrific tool which will allow us to cultivate OpenEMR meetups with ease. It schedules events, handles member management and communication, handles optional member dues and/or sponsors, rolls up sub-groups. Meetup.com is also a platform & social network where millions of people are meeting in countless groups, several thousand of which are healthcare IT/Informatics focused which also makes it one of the best places to quickly reach and draw in potential interest from our obvious target communities.

I'm obviously wide open to providing admin access to others who are interested in helping wrangle things.

Nate, basically our of town this week from Thursday evening to Sat AM. Things are going well, so don't worry about the email. Let me know when you're in town again.

The 5K race sounds very cool. What is an OpenEMR sprint?

Can the meetup.com be used to enroll OEMR members and collect dues etc?

Jeremy and I will be at OSCON. I could invite the local Drs that are using OpenEMR as well, there are a few in the area.

Brady - the OpenEMR sprint Nate referred to is really a group coding activity to solve and identified issue or add a feature in a live collaboration.
