  • The current IHE standard for BPPC does not define a file format or

vocabulary for patient privacy consent. These definitions are in-progress with a HITSP Privacy & Security tiger team, which as been on the news lately. This team has a conference call every Wednesday afternoon, but as of now has no deliverable target date, as they seek further requirements clarification from ONC. I am told that their charter also includes further standardization on advance directives.

  • What Sam seeks in his office and Selvi outlines below is usually

referred to as the HIE Patient Portal, where a patient could, among other things, specific their privacy consents. (An HIE Portal also needs a provider portal and administrator portal.

  • I think it has been decided that OpenEMR will front end the HIE

provider portal function.) The Patient Portal can be a basic, secure web app, as Sam would like to have in his waiting room. It would makes sense to possibly integrate the Patient Portal with the preliminary 2011 certification requirement for OpenEMR's Personal Health Record - a single point of access for patients.
